IV stands for intravenous, meaning “within or into the veins.” IV therapy is any kind of medication, vitamin, or mineral delivered through a person’s veins. In hospitals, IV therapy is used to treat everything from dehydration to infections and even cancer. Perhaps the most common form of IV therapy is saline for rehydration. This solution replenishes the water and electrolytes that the body needs to function at its best. There are also IV solutions for rehydration that include saline with additional vitamins and minerals. Healthcare providers may prescribe these solutions based on the patient’s individual needs and goals.
It’s important to monitor yourself for signs of dehydration at all times, especially at times when you may be more prone to it. Drinking alcohol, having diarrhea, vomiting, and being outdoors for long periods of time can all make you more susceptible to dehydration. The quickest way to replenish your fluids is with IV therapy. Some of the signs of dehydration include:
This is when your salivary glands aren't producing enough saliva
This is a lack of moisture in your saliva
You find yourself not urinating as often, in some cases, not being unable to urinate or urinating very little
You find that you're significantly more thirsty than usual and your body doesn't have enough water to carry out normal tasks
Skin that is dry and feels cold to the touch
This can be an indicator that excess waste products are circulating in the body
When you visit one of our clinics, you will talk to a healthcare provider about your symptoms. Based on this conversation, the provider may recommend a type of IV therapy for you. On average, the IV therapy takes about 30 minutes per bag. The number of bags you need will depend on your body size and the severity of your symptoms.
If you're in need of IV Therapy, you will first contact your closest Center for Advanced Wellness clinic and confirm your appointment. Please arrive to your appointment at least 15 minutes prior as we will have you go through our check-in process. After completing the check-in process, we will have you wait for your name to be called and then have you enjoy your hydration session.
