ABOUT PROSTATE EXAMS
The Importance of Prostate Exams
The prostate is a walnut-sized gland that helps men produce and expel semen. This gland is located in between the bladder and the penis, and it is just in front of the rectum. Many men understandably feel uncomfortable discussing their prostate, much less getting an exam. However, prostate exams are a vital part of catching serious diseases early.

Prostate Exam FAQs
Get the answers you need to all your questions about prostate exams.
Do I need insurance for a prostate exam?
Not at all. We accept patients with and without insurance. If you have insurance, your cost will depend on your coverage. If you don’t have insurance or your deductible is simply too high, consider our membership plans. Options start at $50 per month for adults and bring your copays at our clinic to just $10.
How can I prepare for a prostate exam?
Be sure to tell your provider if you have any anal fissures or hemorrhoids. Before your appointment, you may need to refrain from ejaculation for a little while to ensure the PSA levels are accurate. Most of all, try to breathe deeply and just relax during the exam. Remember that it will only last a few moments.
Do prostate exams hurt?
Although the process can be uncomfortable, prostate exams generally do not hurt.
How long is a prostate exam?
Though external factors can always affect timing, a usual prostate exam takes about ten minutes.
