What is IPL?

Intense pulsed light (IPL) therapy, also referred to as photofacial, improves the texture and color of your skin without surgery. It can even undo some visible damage caused by sun exposure (photoaging).

What can IPL treat?

Some of the most common skin issues and conditions that can be corrected and treated using IPL include:

• Hyperpigmentation
• Facial veins
• Liver spots
• Melasma 
• Rosacea
• Redness or flushed appearance
• Sun damage and sun spots
• Acne scarring

Your entire IPL treatment is personalized to you and can be used to treat the skin on your face, neck, décolleté, or other problem areas. 

How does IPL work?

IPL uses very bright flashes of light to target pigmented and damaged skin cells or hair follicles. 

This energy penetrates through the skin and heats pigmented cells, forcing them to shatter. 

The body removes the damaged tissues naturally.

Over time, pigmented fragments shed away, and healthier skin rises to the surface. You’re left with smoother, even-toned, more vibrant skin.

The effects of IPL are gradual, so don’t expect immediate results. You may see changes in your face within ten days. It may take 6 to 8 weeks before you notice any changes in other treated areas of your body.

Is there any downtime after IPL treatments?

IPL requires minimal downtime. It’s common to have some swelling and slight redness for a few hours after your treatment.

Side effects of specific skin resurfacing treatments can last for a couple of days. The team spends time with you reviewing the clinical-grade products you should use at home to help your skin heal after treatment.

For the first 48 hours after your treatment, don’t take hot showers, hot baths, or soak in a hot tub. Avoid exfoliating your skin within the first seven days, as doing so will cause irritation, and take care not to pick at any crusting or blisters.
